Summer Course

Each August in Aberystwyth we hold a month long intensive Welsh course, which over the years has supported many a students, from all corners of the World to learn Welsh.

This is a course for learners with little or no knowledge of Welsh up to those who are fluent but want to improve the accuracy of their spoken and written skills. For beginners this is an opportunity to master basic communicative skills in the language within as short a period as possible, and for everybody it is a chance to make a real improvement in their mastery of the Welsh language. To this end, the timetable is very demanding. Nevertheless, there will be plenty of time for revision and practising the language skills acquired on the course.

The Course runs for 4 weeks but you are welcome to attend for a week or two if this is more convenient. Please note that the course follows a coursebook and therefore if you are starting a new level or are a complete beginner you will need to attend the course from the first week. If you are attending the course in order to revise, then you can attend whichever week or weeks is (or are) most convenient for you.

Informal teaching activities will be incorporated into the learning. For more information, please see the Informal Teaching Activities Timetable. It is hoped that these activities will encourage you to use Welsh outside the classroom and also allow you to learn about the culture of Wales.

The emphasis of the course is on speaking Welsh – so for four whole weeks you can immerse yourself in the Welsh language and culture, and do so in a beautiful coastal university town. Activities to promote the practical use of Welsh will be integrated into the course, with day and evening activities arranged to compliment the classes (9 – 5 Monday to Friday).
